This routine is designed to be used with ANY of your existing puppets – the basic premise is that they come out dressed as Rudolph…whether they’re a bird, a dog, a gorilla and so on! In fact, the more different the puppet is to a reindeer, the funnier it is.
This leads to lots of interaction with the children, as you try to argue that it really IS Rudolph (even though they can clearly see it’s your dog in antlers and a red nose!)
You don’t need a special puppet-sized reindeer costume – a simple pair of fancy dress antlers and a red nose will suggest the famous reindeer. Antlers on headbands are usually available from pounds shops for the princely sum of…well…a pound! The nose can be a sponge ball on elastic, a clown nose with a magnet, or a battery operated flashing plastic nose. Have fun ‘picking’ your nose!
With the theme of carrots, this trick would also be ideal with any rabbit puppet – perhaps as The Easter Bunny in springtime shows, or simply as your magic rabbit all year round!
